Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a method of providing prolonged analgesia to a mammal in need thereof. Specifically, the current disclosure is directed to a method of treating pain in a mammal for a prolonged period of time using a single high dose of a buprenorphine formulation.
Claims16
A method of producing a prolonged analgesic effect in a mammal, the method comprising the step of parenterally administering to a mammal in need of treatment thereof a single high dose of a buprenorphine, wherein said high dose ranges from about 0.12 mg/kg to about 0.3 mg/kg of total mammal body weight, and wherein said dosage provides adequate analgesia to the mammal for a period of at least twelve hours.
A non-extended release composition for subcutaneous or intramuscular administration to a mammal, the composition comprising:
- about 0.5 mg/mL to about 3.0 mg/mL buprenorphine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein said composition provides a dosage amount of buprenorphine of about 0.12 mg/kg to about 0.24 mg/kg of total body weight;
- and wherein said composition further comprises about 3% to 5% (v/v) of a tonicity-adjusting agent.
