Wave suppressor and sediment collection system

A method to provide water and sediment flow through a rock barrier comprising the following steps:

• a. positioning a plurality of flow pipes through a body of the rock barrier to receive water carrying sediment and flow to a rear of the rock barrier;
• b. providing a plurality of troughs mounted on a forward face of the rock barrier to define a means to capture the water and sediment at entrances of the plurality of flow pipes and flow the water and sediment through the plurality of flow pipes more efficiently, the troughs positioned along a slope of the forward face and extending out from the forward face below the plurality of flow pipes so that the troughs shear or break a wave and dispersing some wave energy contacting the forward face to allow sediment to flow into the plurality of flow pipes and for collecting sediment that is not carried into the plurality of flow pipes and settles on the troughs for being contacted by a following wave to carry the sediment into the plurality of flow pipes;
• c. flowing the water and sediment from the plurality of flow pipes into a principal flow pipe;
• d. carrying the water and sediment to a predetermined distance to the rear of the rock barrier, and allowing the water and sediment to exit the principal flow pipe to deposit sediment at the predetermined distance;
• e. removing a section of the principal flow pipe when sufficient quantity of sediment has been deposited, so that additional sediment is deposited;
• and
• f. continuing steps a through d until the sediment deposited reaches the base of the rock barrier.

A system to provide water and sediment flow through a rock barrier, comprising:

• a. a plurality of flow pipes positioned through a body of the rock barrier to receive water carrying sediment at a first end of the plurality of flow pipes;
• b. at least one principal flow pipe, positioned through the rock barrier to receive flow from the plurality of flow pipes and to carry the water and sediment to a predetermined distance to the rear of the rock barrier, to deposit sediment at the predetermined distance;
• c. a plurality of troughs mounted on a forward face, of the rock barrier to define a means to capture the water and sediment at entrances of the plurality of flow pipes to flow the water and sediment to the rear of the rock barrier, and through the plurality of flow pipes, the troughs positioned along a slope of the forward face and extending out from the forward face below the plurality of flow pipes so that the troughs shear or break a wave and disperse some wave energy contacting the forward face to allow sediment to flow into the plurality of flow pipes and for collecting sediment that is not carried into the plurality of flow pipes and settles on the troughs for being contacted by a following wave to carry the sediment into the plurality of flow pipes;
• and
• d. the at least one principal flow pipe comprising a removable section, the removable section to be removed when sufficient quantity of sediment has been deposited, so that additional sediment is deposited nearer to the rock barrier.

A system to provide water and sediment flow through a rock barrier, comprising:

• a plurality of collection components mounted along a forward face of the rock barrier for carrying water and sediment through the plurality of collection components and through the rock barrier to a rear of the rock barrier, each of the plurality of collection components comprising:
• i. a plurality of flow pipes positioned at multiple heights or levels, declining from the horizontal, through a body of the collection component to receive water carrying sediment at a first end of the plurality of flow pipes, wherein at least one level of the plurality of flow pipes is positioned above a water level for receiving water and sediment through wave action and at least one level of the plurality of flow pipes is positioned below the water level;
• ii. a principal flow pipe to receive flow from the plurality of flow pipes positioned above the water level and to carry the water and sediment to a predetermined distance to the rear of the rock barrier, to deposit sediment at the predetermined distance;
• iii. each flow pipe positioned below the water level comprising a valve positioned at a second end of each flow pipe below the water level to prevent water and sediment from flowing back through the first end;
• iv. the principal flow pipe comprising a removable section, the removable section to be removed when sufficient quantity of sediment has been deposited, so that additional sediment is deposited nearer to the rock barrier;
• and
• v. a plurality of continuous troughs mounted on a forward face of the collection components to define a means to capture the water and sediment at entrances of the plurality of flow pipes to flow the water and sediment to the rear of the rock barrier, and through the plurality of flow pipes, the continuous troughs positioned along a slope of the forward face and extending out from the forward face below the plurality of flow pipes so that the continuous troughs shear or break a wave and disperse some wave energy contacting the forward face to allow sediment to flow into the plurality of flow pipes and for collecting sediment that is not carried into the plurality of flow pipes and settles on the continuous troughs for being contacted by a following wave to carry the sediment into the plurality of flow pipes.
