Abstract
There is provided a method for treating or reducing the effects of fructose intolerance and health problems associated with excessive fructose intake by administration of glucose isomerase. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
Claims21
A method of treating a subject having a condition that is (i) caused by the intake of fructose or fructose containing foodstuffs, or (ii) due to the release of fructose in the digestive tract from other substances, wherein said condition can be treated or ameliorated by the conversion of fructose to glucose in the gastrointestinal tract of said subject by a glucose isomerase, the method comprising administering to said subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of a glucose isomerase, wherein said glucose isomerase is not administered in combination with an effective amount of a 5-D-fructose-ehydrogenase.
A method of treating fructose intolerance or reducing the effects of fructose intolerance, the method comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment or reduction an effective amount of a glucose isomerase, wherein said glucose isomerase is not administered in combination with an effective amount of a 5-D-fructose-dehydrogenase.
A method of preventing or reducing in a subject the occurrence of symptoms that are (i) caused by the intake of fructose or fructose containing foodstuffs, or (ii) due to the release of fructose in the digestive tract of said subject from other substances, wherein said occurrence of symptoms can be prevented or reduced by the conversion of fructose to glucose in the gastrointestinal tract of said subject by a glucose isomerase, the method comprising administering to said subject in need of such prevention or reduction an effective amount of a glucose isomerase, wherein said glucose isomerase is not administered in combination with an effective amount of a 5-D-fructose-dehydrogenase.
