Abstract
A tissue retention system to assist in maintaining adipose tissue on a patient in a displaced position during a medical procedure to provide access to a body region of the patient includes a flexible anchor pad having a pad length and a pad width. The anchor pad may include a pad body with an adhesive surface thereon, the adhesive being configured to selectively adhere to a patient's skin. The anchor pad also may include an opposing first attachment surface facing away from the adhesive surface. The tissue retention system also may include a flexible tension member having a second attachment surface.
Claims28
A tissue retention system to assist in maintaining adipose tissue on a patient in a displaced position during a medical procedure to provide access to a body region of the patient, the tissue retention system comprising:
- a flexible anchor pad having an anchor pad width and an anchor pad length, and having an anchor pad area defined at least partially by the anchor pad width and anchor pad length, the flexible anchor pad comprising:
- a pad body with an adhesive surface thereon, the adhesive surface being configured to selectively adhere to the patient's skin and having a peel load based on an adhesive peel load characteristic indicating loading to detach from the patient's skin while not damaging the patient's skin;
- and
- an opposing first attachment surface facing away from the adhesive surface, the first attachment surface including one of a hook and loop portion of a hook and loop fastener;
- and
- a flexible tension member having a distal portion and a proximal portion, the flexible tension member comprising:
- a laminate construction including an outer material and a second attachment surface, the second attachment surface being disposed adjacent the distal portion and including the other of the hook and loop portion of the hook and loop fastener;
- and
- a body portion layer disposed between the outer material and the second attachment surface, the outer material being adhesively bonded to the body portion layer,
- wherein the flexible tension member is structurally arranged to elongate at a load less than the peel load of the flexible anchor pad so that the flexible tension member elongates before the flexible anchor pad detaches from the patient when under load.
A tissue retention system to assist in maintaining adipose tissue on a patient in a displaced position during a medical procedure to provide access to a body region of the patient, the tissue retention system comprising:
- a flexible anchor pad comprising:
- a pad body with an adhesive surface thereon, the adhesive being configured to selectively adhere to the patient's skin and having a detachment load threshold based on an adhesive peel load characteristic;
- and
- an opposing first attachment surface facing away from the adhesive surface, the first attachment surface including one of a hook and loop portion of a hook and loop fastener;
- a flexible tension member having a distal portion and a proximal portion and a size different than a size of the anchor pad, the flexible tension member comprising:
- an outer material;
- a body portion adjacent the outer material;
- and
- a second attachment surface forming a surface opposing the outer material and being disposed adjacent the distal portion, the second attachment surface including the other of the hook and loop portion of a hook and loop fastener, wherein the body portion is disposed between the outer material and the second attachment surface, the outer material being adhesively bonded to the body portion,
- wherein the outer material has elongation properties so that the outer material is structurally configured to elongate under a load less than 90% of the detachment load threshold of the anchor pad, such that when the first and second attachment surfaces are fastened, the tension member elongates under tension loads before the adhesive pad detaches.
A tissue retention system to assist in maintaining adipose tissue on a patient in a displaced position during a medical procedure to provide access to a body region of the patient, the tissue retention system comprising:
- means for anchoring on a first portion of the patient's body, the means for anchoring having an adhesive peel load characteristic of adhesion to LDPE, 180 degree peel of 15-50 oz/inch width and having a first fastening surface having a first surface area, the first fastening surface comprising one of a hook and loop fastener;
- means for supporting the weight of the adipose tissue that is adjacent the means for anchoring, the means for supporting comprising a second fastening surface having a second surface area different than the first surface area, the second fastening surface comprising the other of a hook and loop fastener and being selectively fastenable to the first fastening surface, the means for supporting comprising:
- means for elongating, comprising a first material layer, under a load of less than 90% of the peel load characteristic of the means for anchoring, such that when the first and second attachment surfaces are fastened, the means for elongating elongates under tension loads before the means for anchoring detaches;
- and
- a body portion layer disposed between the first material layer and the second fastening surface, the first material layer being adhesively bonded to the body portion layer.
