Abstract
A blender has a mixing chamber for reception of materials to be blended. A mixing screw is mounted at a bottom of the mixing chamber for mixing materials within the mixing chamber and delivering mixed materials to an outlet feeding a processing line. A baffle is mounted at the outlet extending about the mixing screw. The baffle inhibits upward movement of material at the outlet tending to cram material into the outlet.
Claims5
A blender comprising:
- a chamber for reception of blend materials,
- the chamber having a material outlet,
- a mixing screw mounted adjacent the material outlet of the chamber for circulation and mixing of materials within the chamber prior to discharge through the material outlet,
- said mixing screw having a pair of opposed blades which are operable to direct material from each end of the mixing screw to a central portion of the mixing screw, said central portion of the mixing screw being located at the material outlet,
- a drive motor drivably connected to the mixing screw,
- a baffle,
- said baffle having at least one opening therein to allow through-passage of material,
- said baffle mounted in the chamber at the material outlet, adjacent the material outlet but spaced-apart from the material outlet,
- the central portion of the mixing screw being mounted between the baffle and the material outlet, such that in use the baffle allows a mixing action to occur while, at the same time, the baffle resists upward movement of material at the material outlet to provide a cramming action on the material at the material outlet.
