Abstract
One embodiment of a gun configured with the soft recoil system comprises a plurality of recoiling parts that initially moves in the direction of the projectile being fired before moving in a direction opposite to that of a projectile during the firing of the round. The soft recoil system throttles the movement of the recoiling parts such that the energy expended during the firing of the round is spread over a longer time period and a longer distance than would normally occur. The soft recoil system stores at least a portion of the energy transferred to the recoiling parts and the user may selectively release at least a part of that portion of energy to offset the energy imparted to the gun during the firing of the next round.
Claims17
A latch mechanism comprising:
- a. a housing having a plurality of apertures formed therein;
- b. a latch assembly pivotally engaged with said housing at a first aperture of said plurality of apertures, wherein said latch assembly comprises:
- i. a latch body;
- ii. a plunger slideably engaged with said latch body;
- c. a crank pivotally engaged with said housing at a second aperture of said plurality of apertures;
- d. a link having a first and second end, wherein said link first end is pivotally engaged with said latch assembly and said link second end is pivotally engaged with said crank, wherein said link is curved in shape along a length of said link between said first and second ends, and wherein said latch assembly, said crank, and said link are configured such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable below a line connecting the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said crank and the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said latch assembly and between said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a first position, and such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable above said line and outside of said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a second position.
A latch mechanism comprising:
- a. a housing that is substantially shaped as a rectangle having a bottom surface and first, second, third, and fourth side surfaces, wherein a plurality of apertures is formed in said housing, and wherein a stop wall is engaged with said first side surface;
- b. a latch assembly pivotally engaged with said housing at a first aperture of said plurality of apertures, wherein said first aperture is formed in said second side surface, and wherein said latch assembly comprises:
- i. a latch body;
- ii. a plunger slideably engaged with said latch body;
- c. a crank pivotally engaged with said housing at a second aperture of said plurality of apertures, wherein said second aperture is formed in said second side surface;
- d. a link having a first and second end, wherein said link first end is pivotally engaged with said latch assembly and said link second end is pivotally engaged with said crank, wherein said link is curved in shape along a length of said link between said first and second ends, and wherein said latch assembly, said crank, and said link are configured such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable below a line connecting the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said crank and the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said latch assembly and between said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a first position, and such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable above said line and outside of said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a second position.
A latch mechanism comprising:
- a. a pivotal latch assembly comprising:
- i. a latch body;
- ii. a catch member engaged with said latch body;
- b. a pivotal crank;
- c. a link having a first and second end, wherein said link first end is pivotally engaged with said latch assembly and said link second end is pivotally engaged with said crank, wherein said link is curved in shape along a length of said link between said first and second ends, and wherein said latch assembly, said crank, and said link are configured such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable below a line connecting the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said crank and the axis of rotation of said link with respect to said latch assembly and between said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a first position, and such that the axis of rotation of said crank with respect to said housing is positionable above said line and outside of said first and second ends of said link when said latch mechanism is in a second position.
