N-(1,3,4-Oxadiazol-2-yl)arylcarboxamides of the general formula (I) are described as herbicides. In this formula (I) A is nitrogen or CY. R, X, Y and Z are each radicals such as hydrogen, organic radicals such as alkyl, and other radicals such as halogen.

An N-(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)arylcarboxamide herbicide of formula (I) and/or a salt thereof
- in which the substituents are defined as follows:
- A is N or CY,
- X is Cl or Me;
- Y is OCH2(CO)NMe2, Cl, CH2OCH2CF3, heterocycle, SO2Me, SOMe or SMe;
- Z is Cl, SO2alkyl, or CF3;
- and
- R is alkyl, CF3, alkylOCH3, or cyclo-alkyl.
