Data processing in intra-site handover

Apparatus for use in a communications system comprising at least one base station having multiple directional transceiver units, said apparatus comprising:

• circuitry configured to receive a data signal originating from said mobile unit received by a first directional transceiver unit, and to receive said data signal originating from said mobile unit received by a second directional transceiver unit, the mobile unit being within an overlapping coverage area associated with said first and second directional transceiver units;
• a processor configured to process said data signal received at the first directional transceiver unit and said data signal received at the second directional transceiver unit;
• and
• beam adjustment circuitry configured to modify an antenna gain of at least said first directional transceiver unit in said overlapping coverage area for modifying the radio performance of at least said first directional transceiver unit in said overlapping coverage area.

A communications system having multiple transceiver units, said communications system comprising:

• a first directional transceiver unit comprising transceiving circuitry configured to receive a signal originating from a mobile unit;
• a second transceiver unit comprising transceiving circuitry configured to receive said signal originating from said mobile unit;
• a processor configured to process said signals received at the first and second transceiver units;
• and
• beam adjustment circuitry to adjust an antenna gain of said first directional transceiver unit in a coverage area of the first transceiver unit for improving radio performance of said first directional transceiver unit in said coverage area.
