Hub and spindle assembly

An apparatus comprising:

• a spindle including a top section, middle section, and a bottom section, wherein the middle section is positioned between the top and bottom sections;
• a hub configured to rotate about the spindle, wherein the hub and spindle are positioned relative to each other to form a gap between the hub and spindle;
• a journal bearing positioned within the gap and adjacent to the middle section;
• a ring seal positioned within the gap and adjacent to the top section;
• a pump seal positioned within the gap and between the ring seal and the journal bearing;
• a first thrust bearing positioned within the gap and between the pump seal and the journal bearing;
• and
• a second thrust bearing positioned within the gap and adjacent to the bottom section.

An apparatus comprising:

• a spindle including first and second ends;
• a hub configured to rotate about the spindle;
• a journal bearing between the first and second ends of the spindle;
• a pump seal adjacent to the first end, wherein the pump seal includes a pattern of lands and grooves formed in a face of the first end of the spindle;
• and
• a first thrust bearing positioned between the pump seal and the journal bearing, wherein the first thrust bearing includes a pattern of lands and grooves separate from the pump seal's pattern.
