Abstract
The invention provides methods for preventing loss and augmenting regeneration of skeletal muscle by decreasing the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system.
Claims17
A method for reducing loss of skeletal muscle in a patient having a battlefield injury, an accidental injury, cancer, anorexia or diabetes, comprising administering to a patient having a battlefield injury, an accidental injury, cancer, anorexia or diabetes a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that decreases the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system so as to reduce the loss of skeletal muscle, wherein the agent is a TWEAK neutralizing antibody that blocks TWEAK activity.
A method for reducing loss of force production by skeletal muscle in a patient having a battlefield injury, an accidental injury, cancer, anorexia or diabetes, comprising administering to a patient having a battlefield injury, an accidental injury, cancer, anorexia or diabetes a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that decreases the activity of the TWEAK/Fn14 system so as to reduce the loss of force production by the skeletal muscle, wherein the agent is a TWEAK neutralizing antibody that blocks TWEAK activity.
