Abstract
A materials-separation process includes a sorting operation in which plastics materials including at least first and second plastics materials are sorted from paper and metal materials so that the first plastics material may be separated from the second plastics material.
Claims40
A separation process comprising the operations of
- separating first plastics flakes having a first material density from second plastics flakes having a relatively lighter second material density and third plastics flakes having relatively lighter third material density using a higher-density fluid having a first fluid density that is between the first and the relatively lighter second material densities and
- separating the second plastics flakes from the third plastics flakes using a lower-density fluid comprising vegetable oil and an additive configured to decrease surface tension and having a relatively lower second fluid density that is between the relatively lighter second material density and the relatively lighter third material density.
A separation process comprising
- the operation of separating a plastics material having a first material density in a range of about 0.94 g/cm3 to about 0.97 g/cm3 from a different plastics material having a second material density in a range of about 0.90 g/cm3 to about 0.92 g/cm3 using fluid comprising vegetable oil and an additive configured to decrease surface tension and having a fluid density in the range of about 0.92 g/cm3 to about 0.94 g/cm3.
