Abstract
Systems, techniques, and processes are disclosed for implementing aperture-based optimization techniques. In one aspect, a method performed by an aperture-based radiation treatment system includes implementing a volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) treatment plan by generating apertures at beam angles. Beam intensities of the generated apertures are determined, which can be used to control generation of a radiation dose in a radiation therapy.
Claims20
A method performed by an aperture-based radiation treatment system to implement a volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), the method comprising:
- generating apertures at beam angles;
- determining beam intensities of the generated apertures, wherein the determining the beam intensities comprises minimizing the difference between beam intensities at two neighboring beam angles;
- and
- using the determined beam intensities of the generated apertures to control generation of radiation dose in a radiation therapy.
A system for radiation treatment using a volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), the system comprising:
- a VMAT processing unit configured to perform the following:
- generating apertures at beam angles, and
- determining beam intensities of the generated apertures, wherein the VMAT processing unit is configured to determine the beam intensities including by minimizing the difference between beam intensities at two neighboring beam angles;
- and
- a radiation therapy device configured to use the determined beam intensities of the generated apertures to control generation of radiation dose in a radiation therapy.
A non-transient computer-readable medium embodying a computer program product adapted to cause a system to perform radiation treatment operations using a volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), the operations comprising:
- generating apertures at beam angles;
- and
- determining beam intensities of the generated apertures, wherein the determining the beam intensities comprises minimizing the difference between beam intensities at two neighboring beam angles;
- and
- using the determined beam intensities of the generated apertures to control generation of radiation dose in a radiation therapy.
