Balloon catheter and method for making same

A catheterization kit for use in a body vessel, the kit comprising:

• an introducer sheath having a proximal section extending to a distal section and a sheath lumen formed therethrough;
• a balloon catheter having an axial length being disposed within the sheath lumen of the introducer sheath for relative axial movement therein, the balloon catheter including:
• a shaft having a proximal portion extending to a distal portion and a shaft lumen formed therethrough;
• and
• an inflatable balloon connected to the distal portion of the shaft and having a balloon wall comprising a balloon interior surface and a balloon exterior surface opposite the balloon interior surface, the balloon wall in fluid communication with the shaft lumen for inflating the balloon defining an inflated state and for collapsing the balloon defining a deflated state, the balloon wall textured in the deflated state is textured having the balloon interior surface spatially registered with the balloon exterior surface providing corresponding surface profiles with substantially matching surface roughness values, the balloon wall in the deflated state comprising a plurality of areas, each area having a plurality of peaks and a plurality of valleys, the plurality of peaks comprising a local maximum peak and a local minimum peak, the local maximum peak having a first height and the local minimum peak having a second height, the first height being greater than the second height, the balloon in the inflated state being tensioned to have a surface roughness substantially less than a surface roughness of the balloon in the deflated state;
• a wire guide including a distal part being disposed within the sheath lumen for relative axial movement therein, the distal part for being positioned adjacent a treatment location within the body vessel to guide the balloon to the treatment location for treating thereto in the inflated state;
• and
• wherein the texture of the balloon wall reduces force for collapsing the balloon facilitating retraction of the balloon into the sheath lumen for retrieval of the balloon catheter from the body vessel.
