Abstract
A plurality of individual single column test elements are provided for use in a clinical testing apparatus. Each test element is defined by a single test column that includes a quantity of a test material, such as gel material or a bead matrix, including a cover strip used to access the contents of the test column. Individual test elements can be stored, retained and dispensed for testing patient samples.
Claims10
A method for random access operation of a clinical analyzer, said method including the steps of:
- providing a storage frame within the clinical analyzer, the storage frame retaining therein a plurality of individual test elements, each of said retained individual test elements including a single reaction well and a strip sealing said reaction well;
- selectively dispensing at least one of said individual test elements from said storage frame;
- and
- conducting a test within the clinical analyzer using said at least one of said individual test elements, wherein each individual test element contains a quantity of an inert test material and a reagent containing at least one of an antibody and a antigen, wherein conducting the test comprises:
- adding patient sample to said reaction well;
- centrifuging said test element to accelerate an agglutination reaction within said reaction well between the patient sample and the reagent;
- and
- visually detecting said reaction in which the reagent containing the at least one of an antibody and a antigen reacts with the patient sample to create the reaction.
