## Abstract

A food container includes a glass container, a lid and a protective sleeve. The sleeve covers at least a portion of the side walls and bottom surface of the glass container. The lid has a perimeter that is absent of features directly securing the lid to the container. The lid has a receiving feature which is engaged by a latch on the protective sleeve when the latch is moved from an open position to a locked position.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A food container comprising:
a glass container having a bottom surface, side walls and a top opening;
a lid capable of covering the top opening of the glass container, wherein the lid has a perimeter that is absent of features directly securing the lid to the container, and wherein the lid has a receiving feature near or on the perimeter, the receiving feature comprising a protrusion; and
a protective sleeve capable of covering at least a portion of the side walls and at least a portion of the bottom surface of the glass container, and wherein the protective sleeve comprises a latch;
wherein the latch is configured to move from an open position to a locked position, wherein the latch is uncoupled from the receiving feature in the open position, wherein the latch comprises an aperture configured to engage the protrusion, and wherein the latch engages only the receiving feature of the lid in the locked position;
wherein the protective sleeve and latch comprise a stretchable first material having a first durometer, wherein the lid comprises a second material having a second durometer, and wherein the second durometer is higher than the first durometer.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the receiving feature comprises a recess, the protrusion being located in the recess.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the aperture engages the protrusion by the protrusion being inserted through the aperture.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The food container of claim 3 wherein the protrusion comprises an end portion that is larger than a neck portion of the protrusion.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the first material comprises silicone, and wherein the second material comprises polypropylene.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the perimeter of the lid has a top surface, and wherein the top surface of the perimeter has a raised edge near the receiving feature.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the lid has a depressed central area forming a lip on an underside of the lid, and wherein the lip is coupled to an interior wall of the glass container when the lid is placed on the glass container.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The food container of claim 7 further comprising a sealing element seated in the lip of the lid, wherein the sealing element provides a seal between the lid and the interior wall of the glass container when the lid is placed on the glass container.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the protective sleeve fits snugly around the glass container such that an intentional force must be applied to separate the protective sleeve from the glass container.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the protective sleeve has a first thickness, wherein the protective sleeve comprises an upper edge having a second thickness, and wherein the second thickness is greater than the first thickness.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the latch is integrally formed with the protective sleeve.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the latch is a tab extending from the protective sleeve.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the latch includes a pivoting motion when moving between the open position and the locked position.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the protective sleeve comprises a plurality of openings, wherein the openings enable visual access through the glass container.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the protective sleeve is capable of covering and remaining on the glass container during stages of using the food container, wherein the stages comprise at least one of storage, cooking, freezing, dishwashing or other washing.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein a bottom surface of the protective sleeve has a thickness that is greater than the remainder of the sleeve.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The food container of claim 1 wherein the latch stretches to engage the receiving feature.
