Abstract
An assembly includes a threaded hole, a threaded fastener, and a locking compound. The threaded fastener is positioned in the threaded hole with a portion of fastener threads mated with a corresponding portion of hole threads. The locking compound is between the mated fastener threads and hole threads. The locking compound includes an aluminum pigmented compound suspended in a water-based inorganic binder.
Claims11
An assembly comprising:
- a component that includes a threaded hole having hole threads;
- a threaded fastener having fastener threads positioned in the threaded hole, wherein a portion of the fastener threads is mated with a corresponding portion of the hole threads;
- and
- a locking compound applied directly to at least one of the portion of fastener threads and the corresponding hole threads to be mated, wherein the locking compound comprises a substantially pure, non-chromated aluminum pigmented compound suspended in a water-based inorganic binder with temperature resistance in excess of 900 degrees Fahrenheit (about 482 degrees Celsius), and wherein the locking compound is between at least 5% of the portion of the fastener threads that is mated with the corresponding portion of the hole threads;
- wherein presence of the locking compound between the fastener threads and the hole threads causes an increase in running torque by at least about 60 inch-pounds after the assembly has been heated to a temperature exceeding about 900 degrees Fahrenheit (about 482 degrees Celsius).
