Abstract
A position detection and simulation platform includes software configurable logic and programmable inputs and outputs to support software configuration only changes for use with a variety of position feedback devices including synchros, resolvers, linear variable differential transformers, and rotary variable differential transformers. Power to the software configurable outputs is dynamically controlled so that the power supply voltage presented to the outputs satisfies a minimum threshold above the amplitude of the output signal. Dynamic control is based on at least one of a digital representation of a signal to be output, an analog version of the signal to be output, or the signal being output.

A method of multi-resolution position detection, comprising:
- providing a position detection and simulation platform comprising a plurality of software-configurable channels capable of identical functionality;
- and
- configuring a first channel and a second channel of the software configurable channels differently for facilitating concurrent detection of a coarse position of a rotor by a first channel and a fine position of the rotor by a second channel based on a common stator signal presented to each of the two channels.
A system of multi-resolution position detection, comprising:
- a plurality of software-configurable inputs suitable for receiving one or more stator signals and rotor excitation signals;
- a plurality of software-configurable input processing channels configurable to determine frequency characteristics of the received stator signals and excitation signals, wherein the software configurable input processing channels are capable of identical functionality;
- a first channel of the plurality of software-configurable input processing channels configured for detection of a coarse position of a rotor;
- a second channel of the plurality of software-configurable input processing channels configured for detection of a fine position of the rotor concurrently with the detection of the coarse position of the rotor;
- and
- wherein the concurrent detection of the coarse position and the fine position of the rotor is based on a stator signal that is common to the first channel and the second channel of the plurality of software-configurable input processing channels.
