Abstract
Methods for directional coupler termination impedance control are provided. In one embodiment, a method for termination impedance selection of a directional coupler in a power amplifier module is provided. The method includes determining at least one of a power mode or a frequency band of operation of the power amplifier module. The method further includes selecting a termination impedance of the directional coupler based on the determination using at least one switch.

A method for termination impedance selection in a power amplifier module, the method comprising:
- generating a first radio frequency signal using a first power amplifier of the power amplifier module;
- generating a second radio frequency signal using a second power amplifier of the power amplifier module;
- determining at least one of a power mode or a frequency band of operation of the power amplifier module, the power amplifier module including a multi-band directional coupler including a first signal pathway associated with the first radio frequency signal and a second signal pathway associated with the second radio frequency signal;
- and
- selecting a termination impedance of the multi-band directional coupler based on the determination using at least one switch, the at least one switch including a first switch electrically connected in series with a first capacitor and a second capacitor between a terminate terminal of the multi-band directional coupler and a reference voltage.
A method for termination impedance selection of a directional coupler in a power amplifier module, the method comprising:
- determining at least one of a power mode or a frequency band of operation of the power amplifier module;
- selecting a termination impedance of the directional coupler based on the determination using at least one switch, the at least one switch including a first switch having an ON state and an OFF state, the first switch including an input electrically connected to a terminate terminal of the directional coupler and an output electrically connected to a first termination impedance, the first switch configured to provide a first low impedance path between the input and the output when in the ON state and to provide a first high impedance path between the input and the output when in the OFF state, the first high impedance path having an impedance that is greater than an impedance of the first low impedance path.
A non-transitory tangible computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that when executed by a processor perform a method for termination impedance selection in a power amplifier module, the method comprising:
- determining at least one of a power mode or a frequency band of operation of the power amplifier module, the power amplifier module including a first power amplifier configured to generate a first radio frequency signal and a second power amplifier configured to generate a second radio frequency signal, the power amplifier module further including a multi-band directional coupler including a first signal pathway associated with the first radio frequency signal and a second signal pathway associated with the second radio frequency signal;
- and
- generating a switch control signal based on the determination, the switch control signal operable to select a termination impedance of the multi-band directional coupler using at least one switch, the switch control signal further operable to turn on or off a first switch of the at least one switch, the first switch electrically connected in series with a first capacitor and a second capacitor between a terminate terminal of the multi-band directional coupler and a reference voltage.
