## Abstract

The present invention provides methods of treating inflammatory diseases in a subject comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that inhibits pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) and methods of screening for agents that inhibit PEDF.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of treating a disease or disorder in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody that binds to and inhibits pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), wherein the disease or disorder is selected from the group consisting of endotoxemia, sepsis, septicemia, and endotoxic shock.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease or disorder is endotoxemia.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease or disorder is sepsis.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease or disorder is septicemia.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease or disorder is endotoxic shock.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the antibody is a humanized or human antibody.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the subject is a mammal.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein the subject is a human.
