Abstract
By way of example only, in various embodiments, the present system and system is designed to reduce the size of data on a computer through compression, to improve hash, message digest, and checksum technology and their application to information and data storage, to improve uniqueness by using mutual exclusion in hash and checksum tests, to improve checksum tests providing better computer security, to create an XML compression format and to move binary compression formats to XML or other markup language, to utilize variable length hashes and message digests, and to create an XML based checksum that can be used to verify the integrity of files.
Claims18
A system for data decompression comprising:
- one or more data processors configured to receive a data entry comprising data identifying:
- first and second checksum algorithms wherein the first and second checksum algorithms are different, a first checksum value generated by applying the first checksum algorithm to a data block, and a second checksum value generated by applying the second checksum algorithm to the data block;
- wherein the data entry is a compressed representation of the data block, and the one or more data processors are programmed to decompress the data entry to generate the initial data block by:
- identifying one or more data blocks within a range of numbers as potentially being the initial data block by
- applying the first checksum algorithm to each data block within the range of numbers to generate a set of first checksum values,
- wherein each first checksum value corresponds to one or more data blocks within the range of numbers;
- and
- identifying one or more data blocks within the range of numbers as potentially being the initial data block by searching for data blocks with corresponding first checksum values that match the first checksum value of the initial data block.
A system for data compression comprising:
- a computer-readable storage medium;
- a data processor configured to receive a digital file, wherein the digital file comprises one or more data blocks;
- the data processor programmed to:
- apply a first checksum algorithm and a second checksum algorithm to one of the one or more data blocks to create a first checksum value and a second checksum value, wherein the first checksum algorithm is different than the second checksum algorithm;
- and
- create a data entry comprising data identifying the first and second checksum algorithms and the first and second checksum values, wherein the data entry has lower data storage requirements than the data block and can be used to create a decompressed version of the data block;
- and
- store the data entry in the computer-readable storage medium.
A computer implemented method for data decompression comprising:
- storing, in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, a data entry comprising data identifying:
- first and second checksum algorithms wherein the first and second checksum algorithms are different, a first checksum value generated by applying the first checksum algorithm to a data block, and a second checksum value generated by applying the second checksum algorithm to the data block;
- wherein the data entry represents a compressed version of the data block;
- applying, via a data processor, the first checksum algorithm to each data block within a range of numbers to generate a set of first checksum values, wherein each first checksum value corresponds to one or more data blocks within the range of numbers;
- and
- identifying, via the data processor, one or more data blocks as potentially being the data block by searching of for data blocks with corresponding first checksum values that match the first checksum value of the initial data block.
