Abstract
A plurality of training signal sets are transmitted. Each training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to a communication channel from a first station to a second station. A refined channel estimate is determined based on reception of the plurality of training signal sets.
Claims25
A method, comprising:
- determining, at a first communication, whether a signal quality level for a communication channel meets a criterion, the communication channel between the first communication device and a second communication device;
- in response to determining that the signal quality level meets the criterion:
- prompting the second communication device to transmit a plurality of training signal sets to the first communication device, wherein each training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel,
- receiving, at the first communication device, the plurality of training signal sets,
- determining, at the first communication device, a plurality of individual channel estimates, each respective individual channel estimate based on a respective training signal set in the plurality of training signal sets, and
- determining, with the first communication device, a refined channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel based on a mathematical combination of the plurality of individual channel estimates.

A first communication device, comprising:
- a hardware device configured to
- determine whether a signal quality level for a communication channel meets a criterion, the communication channel between the first communication device and a second communication device,
- in response to determining that the signal quality level meets the criterion:
- prompt the second communication device to transmit a plurality of training signal sets to the first communication device, wherein each training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel,
- determine a plurality of individual channel estimates from the second communication device based on received training signal sets corresponding to the plurality of training signal sets, each respective individual channel estimate based on a respective training signal set in the plurality of training signal sets, and
- determine a refined channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel based on a mathematical combination of the plurality of individual channel estimates.

A non-transitory, tangible storage medium for tangibly storing machine readable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
- determine whether a signal quality level for a communication channel meets a criterion, the communication channel between a first communication device and a second communication device;
- in response to determining that the signal quality level meets the criterion:
- cause the first communication device to prompt the second communication device to transmit a plurality of training signal sets to the first communication device, wherein each training signal set includes information sufficient to determine a channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel;
- determine a plurality of individual channel estimates from the second communication device based on received training signal sets corresponding to the plurality of training signal sets, each respective individual channel estimate based on a respective training signal set in the plurality of training signal sets, and
- determine a refined channel estimate corresponding to the communication channel based on a mathematical combination of a plurality of individual channel estimates.
