Abstract
An apparatus can be generally directed to a magnetic stack having a magnetically free layer positioned on an air bearing surface (ABS). The magnetically free layer can be biased to a predetermined magnetization in various embodiments by a biasing structure that is coupled with the magnetically free layer and positioned distal the ABS.

An apparatus comprising a magnetic lamination positioned on an air bearing surface (ABS) and biased to a predetermined magnetization by a biasing structure, the biasing structure separated from the ABS and continuously extending from a first lateral side of the magnetic lamination to an opposite second lateral side of the magnetic lamination, the biasing structure coupled to the magnetic lamination and a magnetic shield, the biasing structure having a non-rectangular shape along a plane perpendicular to the ABS.
An apparatus comprising a magnetic lamination positioned on an air bearing surface (ABS) and biased to a predetermined magnetization by first and second biasing structures, the first biasing structure coupled to the magnetic lamination and a first magnetic shield, the second biasing structure coupled to the magnetic lamination and a second magnetic shield positioned on an opposite side of the magnetic lamination from the first magnetic shield, the first and second biasing structures each having non-rectangular shapes along a plane perpendicular to the ABS.
A data reader comprising a magnetic lamination positioned on an air bearing surface (ABS) and biased to a predetermined magnetization by first, second, and third biasing structures, the first biasing structure coupled to the magnetic lamination and a first magnetic shield, the second biasing structure coupled to the magnetic lamination and a second magnetic shield positioned on an opposite side of the magnetic lamination from the first magnetic shield, the third biasing structure separated from the first and second magnetic shields and magnetic lamination, distal the ABS, the first and second biasing structures each having non-rectangular shapes along a plane perpendicular to the ABS.
