Abstract
An inbred corn line, designated 3HK232, the plants and seeds of the inbred corn line 3HK232, methods for producing a corn plant, either inbred or hybrid, produced by crossing the inbred corn line 3HK232 with itself or with another corn plant, and hybrid corn seeds and plants produced by crossing the inbred line 3HK232 with another corn line or plant and to methods for producing a corn plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic corn plants produced by that method. This invention also relates to inbred corn lines derived from inbred corn line 3HK232, to methods for producing other inbred corn lines derived from inbred corn line 3HK232 and to the inbred corn lines derived by the use of those methods.
Claims34
Seed, kernel, endosperm, germ, pericarp, or tip cap of corn inbred line designated 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515.
A method for producing an inbred corn seed, the method comprising:
- planting more than one seed of corn inbred line designated 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA 8515, in pollinating proximity to each other;
- growing plants from the seeds planted in pollinating proximity to each other under pollinating conditions;
- and
- harvesting a resultant inbred seed.
A method for producing a corn seed, the method comprising:
- crossing inbred corn plant 3HK232, representative seed of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, with another, different corn plant to yield progeny corn seed.
A method for introducing a desired trait into corn inbred line 3HK232, the method comprising:
- crossing a corn plant of the line 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, with a plant of another, different corn line that comprises a desired trait, to produce F1 progeny plants;
- selecting an F1 progeny plant that has the desired trait;
- backcrossing the selected F1 progeny plant with a 3HK232 plant to produce F2 backcross progeny plants;
- selecting an F2 backcross progeny plant that comprises the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of corn inbred line 3HK232;
- backcrossing the selected F2 backcross progeny plant with a 3HK232 plant to produce higher backcross progeny plants;
- and
- selecting higher backcross progeny plant that comprises the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of corn inbred line 3HK232 listed in Table 1, as determined at the 5% significance level when the selected higher backcross progeny plant and a 3HK232 plant are grown in the same environmental conditions.
A method for producing a corn plant, the method comprising:
- growing a first generation hybrid corn plant having as a parent a corn plant of inbred corn line 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515;
- inbreeding the first generation hybrid corn plant to yield a progeny corn seed;
- growing the progeny corn seed to yield a further progeny corn seed;
- and
- growing the further progeny corn seed to produce a corn plant.
A method for producing a seed of a corn inbred plant of the line designated 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, the method comprising:
- planting a collection of seeds comprising seed of a hybrid, one of whose parents is the inbred 3HK232, the collection also comprising at least one seed of the inbred 3HK232;
- growing plants from the collection of seeds;
- identifying an inbred 3HK232 plant from among the plants grown from the collection of seeds;
- controlling pollination in a manner that preserves the homozygosity of the identified inbred 3HK232 plant;
- and
- harvesting a resultant inbred 3HK232 seed.
A method for producing a corn plant, the method comprising:
- Crossing, to produce a seed, an inbred corn plant of the line 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, with a corn plant obtained by growing a collection of seeds comprising seed of a hybrid, one of whose parents is the inbred 3HK232, the collection also comprising at least one seed of the inbred 3HK232, and
- growing the seed to produce the corn plant.
A seed of corn inbred line designated 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515.
A method for producing a 3HK232-derived corn plant, the method comprising:
- crossing a corn plant of inbred corn line 3HK232, representative seeds of the line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, with a second corn plant to yield progeny corn seed;
- and
- growing the progeny corn seed to yield the 3HK232-derived corn plant.
A method for regenerating a corn plant, the method comprising:
- culturing an explant comprising a tissue selected from the group consisting of a tissue obtained from an inbred corn plant of line 3HK232, representative seeds having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8515, a tissue obtained from a hybrid corn plant having an inbred corn plant of line 3HK232 as a parent, and a tissue obtained from a corn plant produced by crossing an inbred corn plant of line 3HK232 and a second corn plant;
- and
- initiating regeneration in the explant.
