Rechargeable battery

A rechargeable battery comprising:

• an electrode assembly including a separator and a positive electrode and a negative electrode that are stacked with the separator therebetween;
• a case for receiving the electrode assembly;
• and
• an electrode terminal connected to the electrode assembly, wherein the electrode assembly includes a pair of outermost negative electrodes and the pair of outermost negative electrodes respectively include a negative current collector and negative active material layers formed on both sides of the negative current collector, wherein the negative active material layers include an internal active material layer formed adjacent to inner most side of the negative current collector and an external active material layer formed adjacent to an outer most side of the negative current collector, and the external active material layer includes a negative active material that is different from the internal active material layer.
