Abstract
A gaming system and method which provides for one or more gaming device triggered bonus games to be skipped or otherwise not provided to the players at the gaming devices which triggered such bonus games. The average expected payouts of skipped gaming device triggered bonus games are contributed to a bonus accumulation pool or fund. The accumulation pool is subsequently utilized to provide one or more gaming system triggered bonuses to one or more players at one or more of the gaming devices in the gaming system. A player's accumulated triggering symbols determine, at least in part, the player's probability of winning part of the bonus accumulation pool and/or the player's portion of the bonus accumulation pool.

A gaming system comprising:
- at least one gaming device, said at least one gaming device including at least one input device;
- at least one display device associated with said at least one gaming device;
- and
- at least one controller configured to communicate with said at least one gaming device, said at least one controller and said at least one gaming device programmed to operate to:
- (a) maintain a bonus accumulation pool,
- (b) upon a placement of a first wager on a first play of a primary game:
- (i) generate a first plurality of symbols, said generated first plurality of symbols including a first quantity of triggering symbols,
- (ii) determine any awards associated with the generated first plurality of symbols,
- (iii) display any determined awards, and
- (iv) contribute a first amount to the maintained bonus accumulation pool, said first amount at least partially based on the first quantity of generated triggering symbols, and
- (c) upon a placement of a second wager on a second, different play of the primary game:
- (i) generate a second, different plurality of symbols, said generated second plurality of symbols including a second, different quantity of triggering symbols,
- (ii) determine any awards associated with the generated second plurality of symbols,
- (iii) display, any determined awards, and
- (iv) contribute a second, different amount to the maintained bonus accumulation pool, said second amount at least partially based on the second quantity of generated triggering symbols.
The gaming system of claim wherein the value of said gaming system triggered bonus game award is based, at least in part, on a randomly determined value for each redeemed accumulated triggering symbol.
A gaming system comprising:
- at least one display device;
- at least one input device;
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory device which stores a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one display device and the at least one input device to, upon a placement of wager:
- (a) generate a plurality, of symbols, said generated plurality of symbols including a quantity of triggering symbols,
- (b) determine any awards associated with the generated plurality of symbols,
- (c) display any determined awards,
- (d) contribute an average expected payout of a bonus game to a bonus accumulation pool, and
- (e) accumulate the quantity of generated triggering symbols, wherein prior to an occurrence of an accumulated triggering symbol redemption event, the accumulated quantity of generated triggering symbols have a theoretical value and after the occurrence of the accumulated triggering symbol redemption event, the accumulated quantity of generated triggering symbols have an actual value, said actual value being at least partially based on at least one random determination.
A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
- (a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to maintain a bonus accumulation pool,
- (b) upon a placement of a first wager on a first play of a primary game:
- (i) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to generate a first plurality of symbols, said generated first plurality of symbols including a first quantity of triggering symbols,
- (ii) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine any awards associated with the generated first plurality of symbols,
- (iii) causing at least one display device to displays any determined awards, and
- (iv) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to contribute a first amount to the maintained bonus accumulation pool, said first amount at least partially based on the first quantity of generated triggering symbols, and
- (c) upon a placement of a second wager on a second, different play of the primary game:
- (i) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to generate a second, different plurality of symbols, said generated second plurality of symbols including a second, different quantity of triggering symbols,
- (ii) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine any awards associated with the generated second plurality of symbols,
- (iii) causing the at least one display device to display any awards, and
- (iv) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to contribute a second, different amount to the maintained bonus accumulation pool, said second amount at least partially based on the second quantity of generated triggering symbols.
A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:
- (a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions to, upon a placement of a wager, generate a plurality of symbols, said generated plurality of symbols including a quantity of triggering symbols;
- (b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine any awards associated with the generated plurality of symbols;
- (c) causing at least one display device to display any determined awards;
- (d) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to contribute an average expected payout of a bonus game to a bonus accumulation pool;
- and
- (e) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to accumulate the quantity of generated triggering symbols, wherein prior to an occurrence of an accumulated triggering symbol redemption event, the accumulated quantity of generated triggering symbols have a theoretical value and after the occurrence of the accumulated triggering symbol redemption event, the accumulated quantity of generated triggering symbols have an actual value said actual value being at least partially based on at least one random determination.
