Abstract
A process of introducing a NOx reduction fluid into combustion products within a downstream end of a regenerative pyrolysis reactor. This NOx reduction fluid may thermally reduce NOx contained therein. The NOx reduction fluid may include ammonia.
Claims23
A process comprising:
- mixing a NOx reduction fluid with combustion products within a regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor downstream of a combustion mixing zone, wherein the NOx reduction fluid reacts with NOx contained in the combustion products to reduce the amount of NOx in the combustion products;
- and
- monitoring the composition of the combustion products downstream of the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- and
- adjusting the flow rate of the NOx reduction fluid to the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor based on the monitored composition.

A process comprising:
- mixing a NOx reduction fluid with combustion products within a regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor downstream of a combustion mixing zone, wherein the NOx reduction fluid reacts with NOx contained in the combustion products to reduce the amount of NOx in the combustion products;
- and
- passing the NOx reduction fluid and combustion products over a catalyst within the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor downstream of the combustion mixing zone, wherein the catalyst promotes reactions between the combustion products and the NOx reduction fluid to reduce the NOx contained in the combustion products.
A pyrolysis system comprising:
- a regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor having a combustion mixing zone within the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- and a NOx reduction mixing zone within the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- and
- a NOx reduction fluid source in fluid communication with the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor and configured to provide a NOx reduction fluid to the NOx reduction mixing zone of the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- wherein the at least a portion of the surfaces in the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor downstream of the combustion mixing zone have a catalytic coating configured to promote the reaction of the NOx reduction fluid with combustion products.
2 more elements
A pyrolysis system comprising:
- a regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor having a combustion mixing zone within the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- and a NOx reduction mixing zone within the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- a NOx reduction fluid source in fluid communication with the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor and configured to provide a NOx reduction fluid to the NOx reduction mixing zone of the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor;
- a reactor composition measurement device downstream of the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor and configured to monitor the composition of the combustion products downstream of the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor and transmit the reactor monitored data;
- and
- a process control unit in communication with the reactor composition measurement device and configured receive the reactor monitored data, determine the NOx content of the combustion products, and indicate an adjustment to a flow rate of the NOx reduction fluid to the regenerative thermal pyrolysis reactor based on the determined NOx content.
