Abstract
The present invention provides reagents and methods for biomaterial production from cyanobacteria.
Claims6
A recombinant Synechocystis PCC 6803 host cell, wherein the host cell comprises an isolated recombinant nucleic acid, comprising:
- (a) a first nucleic acid comprising an inducible cyanobacterial promoter;
- and
- (b) a second nucleic acid operably linked to the first nucleic acid, wherein the second nucleic acid comprises the full length complement of the polynucleotide of SEQ ID NO:1;
- and wherein the recombinant host cell is deficient in cyanophycin production, wherein the cyanophycin expression deficiency results from:
- (i) deletion of the cyanophycin synthetase gene of SEQ ID NO:22 in the cyanobacteria;
- or
- (ii) expression in the cell of a nucleic acid construct comprising a promoter sequence operatively linked to the full length complement of the nucleic acid of SEQ ID NO:22.
