Abstract
The invention relates to nucleic acids encoding a zingiberene synthase that enables host cells and plants to make zingiberene that is useful in fragrances and for repelling or killing insects. The invention also relates to isolated zingiberene synthases and to methods for making zingiberenes.
Claims10
An isolated nucleic acid comprising a cDNA encoding a zingiberene synthase with at least 97% sequence identity to any of amino acid sequences SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16, or 18.
An expression cassette comprising a cDNA encoding a zingiberene synthase with at least 97% sequence identity to any of amino acid sequences SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 16, or 18 wherein the cDNA encoding the zingiberene synthase is operably linked to a heterologous promoter functional in a host cell.
