Abstract
An approach is provided for selecting personalized content presented via a set-top box. Viewing data related to content experienced by a user is retrieved. Broadcast content is selected based on the viewing data from a plurality of programs that are designated to broadcast to a plurality of set-top boxes. A personalized programming channel is presented for the user using the selected broadcast content over a particular one of the set-top boxes associated with the user.

A method comprising:
- retrieving viewing data related to content experienced by a user;
- selecting broadcast content based on the viewing data from a plurality of programs that are designated to broadcast to a plurality of set-top boxes;
- presenting a personalized content selector over the first personalized program within the personalized programming channel, the personalized content selector presenting additional personalized programs among the selected broadcast content related to what user is currently watching according to user preferred genres for selecting by the user;
- receiving a skip command at the particular set-top box for selecting a second personalized program from the additional personalized programs;
- and presenting, via the particular set-top box, the second personalized program over the personalized programming channel in response to the skip command.

An apparatus comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs,
- the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following,
- retrieve viewing data related to content experienced by a user,
- select broadcast content based on the viewing data and the preference data from a plurality of programs that are designated to broadcast to a plurality of set-top boxes,
- present a first personalized program over a personalized programming channel for the user using the selected broadcast content via a particular one of the set-top boxes associated with the user,
- present a personalized content selector over the first personalized program within the personalized programming channel, the personalized content selector presenting additional personalized programs among the selected broadcast content related to what user is currently watching according to user preferred genres for selecting by the user,
- receive a skip command at the particular set-top box for selecting a second personalized program from the additional personalized programs, and
- present, via the particular set-top box, the second personalized program over the personalized programming channel in response to the skip command.

- a processor configured to retrieve viewing data related to content experienced by a user and to select broadcast content based on the viewing data from a plurality of programs;
- and
- a presentation module configured to present a first personalized program over a personalized programming channel for the user using the selected broadcast content, present a personalized content selector over the first personalized program within the personalized programming channel, the personalized content selector presenting additional personalized programs among the selected broadcast content related to what user is currently watching according to user preferred genres for selecting by the user,
- and to present a second personalized program from among the additional personalized programs over the personalized programming channel in response to a skip command.
