Port matching for data storage system port failover

A data storage system comprising:

• a first storage processor associated with one or more ports;
• a second storage processor associated with one or more additional ports;
• a first non-transitory computer readable medium having first code stored thereon that, when executed, performs port matching and generates first information, said first code being executed by the first storage processor, said first information including information identifying a first set of one or more port pairs, wherein each port pair in said first set includes a first port of either the first storage processor or a second storage processor and a second port of either the first storage processor or the second storage processor, said each port pair of the first set denoting the first port as protecting the second port whereby, upon failure or unavailability of the second port, the first port virtualizes the second port causing requests directed to the second port to be redirected to the first port;
• and
• a second non-transitory computer readable medium having second code stored thereon that, when executed, performs the port matching and generates second information, said second code being executed by the second storage processor;
• and
• wherein the first non-transitory computer readable medium further includes third code that, when executed, performs port failover processing using the first information upon failure or unavailability of one or more ports of any of said first storage processor and said second storage processor which are protected by one or more other ports of the first storage processor, wherein failure or unavailability, of one or more ports of any of the first storage processor and the second storage processor which are protected by one or more other ports of the first storage processor, occurs subsequent to executing the first code that performs the port matching and that generates the first information;
• and
• wherein the second non-transitory computer readable medium further includes fourth code that, when executed, performs port failover processing using the second information upon failure or unavailability of one or more ports of any of said first storage processor and said second storage processor which are protected by one or more other ports of the second storage processor, wherein failure or unavailability, of one or more ports of any of said first storage processor and said second storage processor which are protected by one or more other ports of the second storage processor, occurs subsequent to executing the second code that performs the port matching and that generates the second information.

A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising code stored thereon for determining port failover information, the non-transitory computer readable medium comprising code that, when executed, performs a method comprising:

• determining first information by a first storage processor executing first code that performs port matching, said first information including information identifying a first set of one or more port pairs, wherein each port pair in said first set includes a first port of either the first storage processor or a second storage processor and a second port of either the first storage processor or the second storage processor, said each port pair of the first set denoting the first port as protecting the second port whereby, upon failure or unavailability of the second port, the first port virtualizes the second port causing requests directed to the second port to be redirected to the first port;
• determining second information by the second storage processor executing second code that performs the port matching, said second information including information identifying a second set of one or more port pairs, wherein each port pair in said second set includes a third port of either the first storage processor or the second storage processor and a fourth port of either the first storage processor or the second storage processor, said each port pair of the second set denoting the third port as protecting the fourth port whereby, upon failure or unavailability of the fourth port, the third port virtualizes the fourth port causing requests directed to the fourth port to be redirected to the third port;
• and
• performing port failover processing upon failure or unavailability of one or more ports of any of said first storage processor and said second storage processor, said port failover processing using any of said first information and said second information, wherein the failure or unavailability occurs at a first point in time and wherein said determining first information and said determining second information are both performed prior to the first point in time at which the failure or unavailability occurs.
