Abstract
Embodiments comprising a memory and a USB host controller coupled to the memory. The power efficiency of a USB during asynchronous transfers is increased by limiting usage of an asynchronous schedule stored in the memory when servicing a scheduled asynchronous transfer endpoint. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
Claims23
An apparatus comprising:
- a controller configured to limit external memory use when an asynchronous endpoint is serviced on a serial bus, wherein to limit the external memory use the controller is configured to:
- determine that a bus device of the asynchronous endpoint is not ready to either consume or send data;
- place the port configured to service the asynchronous endpoint in a sleep mode, the port being in the controller;
- and
- defer access to an asynchronous schedule in the external memory when the port is in the sleep mode.

A method comprising:
- limiting, by a controller, external memory use when servicing an asynchronous endpoint on a serial bus, the limiting including:
- determining that a bus device of the asynchronous endpoint is not ready to either consume or send data;
- placing the port configured to service the asynchronous endpoint in a sleep mode, the port being in the controller;
- and
- deferring access to an asynchronous schedule in the external memory when the port in the sleep mode.
2 more elements
A non-transitory computer readable medium with instructions therein, which when processed result in a machine:
- limiting, by a controller, external memory use when servicing an asynchronous endpoint on a serial bus, the limiting including:
- determining that a bus device of the asynchronous endpoint is not ready to either consume or send data;
- placing the port configured to service the asynchronous endpoint in a sleep mode, the port being in the controller;
- and
- deferring access to an asynchronous schedule in the external memory when the port in the sleep mode.
