Abstract
The described embodiments include a computing device that handles memory requests. In some embodiments, when a memory request is to be sent to a cache in the computing device or to be bypassed to a next lower level of a memory hierarchy in the computing device based on expected memory request resolution times, a bypass mechanism is configured to send the memory request to the cache or bypass the memory request to the next lower level of the memory hierarchy.
Claims20
A method for handling memory requests, comprising:
- in a bypass mechanism, performing operations for:
- when a memory request is to be sent to a cache or to be bypassed to a next lower level of a memory hierarchy based on expected memory request resolution times, sending the memory request to the cache or bypassing the memory request to the next lower level of the memory hierarchy.
An apparatus that handles memory requests, comprising:
- a memory hierarchy comprising a cache and at least one level lower than the cache;
- and
- a bypass mechanism;
- wherein when a memory request is to be sent to the cache or to be bypassed to a next lower level of the memory hierarchy based on expected memory request resolution times, the bypass mechanism is configured to send the memory request to the cache or bypass the memory request to the next lower level of the memory hierarchy.
A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform method for handling memory requests, the method comprising:
- when a memory request is to be sent to a cache or to be bypassed to a next lower level of a memory hierarchy based on expected memory request resolution times, sending the memory request to the cache or bypassing the memory request to the next lower level of the memory hierarchy.
