Abstract
An IS monitoring approach is described that is capable of monitoring the availability of various software components. A further capability is that the availability of the individual software components upon which a specific business logic process depends may each be individually and continuously checked, in a combined fashion that is referenced to the specific business logic process, so that the status of the business logic process itself (e.g., operable or non-operable) can be continuously determined on an on-going basis. Moreover, operability or non-operability can be established over a wide range of different business logic processes on a process by process basis.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- forming, at a Generic Request Message Generation (GRMG) infrastructure unit using one or more processors, a request message identifying a high-level scenario corresponding to a business logic process that invokes a plurality of lower-level software components;
- sending the request message to a GRMG application with a servlet engine used to perform the business logic process, the request message configured to trigger the testing, by the GRMG application, of each of the lower-level software components invoked by the business logic process corresponding to the scenario identified in the request message;
- wherein the GRMG application is configured to perform the availability monitoring of each of the software components that are identified by the request message, and collect and place the availability monitoring results of each of the software components into a GRMG response message;
- receiving, at the GRMG infrastructure unit, said GRMG response message;
- and and
- in response to the reception of said GRMG response message, displaying the availability monitoring results on a display in a manner that allows an administrator to visually determine a status of the high-level scenario.
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a GRMG infrastructure unit executable by the one or more processors and configured to:
- form a request message identifying a high-level scenario corresponding to a business logic process that invokes a plurality of lower-level software components;
- send the request message to a GRMG application with a servlet engine used to perform the business logic process, the request message configured to trigger the testing, by the GRMG application, of each of the lower-level software components invoked by the business logic process corresponding to the scenario identified in the request message, wherein the GRMG application is configured to perform the availability monitoring of each of the software components that are identified by the request message, and collect and place the availability monitoring results of each of the software components into a GRMG response message;
- receive said GRMG response message;
- and
- in response to the reception of the GRMG response message, cause graphically displaying the availability monitoring results on a display in a manner that allows an administrator to visually determine a status of the high-level scenario.
A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions, which when implemented by one or more machines, cause the one or more machines to perform operations comprising:
- forming, at a Generic Request Message Generation (GRMG) infrastructure unit using one or more processors, a request message identifying a high-level scenario corresponding to a business logic process that invokes a plurality of lower-level software components;
- sending the request message to a GRMG application with a servlet engine used to perform the business logic process, the request message configured to trigger the testing, by the GRMG application, of each of the lower-level software components invoked by the business logic process corresponding to the scenario identified in the request message;
- wherein the GRMG application is configured to perform the availability monitoring of each of the software components that are identified by the request message, and collect and place the availability monitoring results of each of the software components into a GRMG response message;
- receiving, at the GRMG infrastructure unit, said GRMG response message;
- and
- in response to the reception of said GRMG response message, displaying the availability monitoring results on a display in a manner that allows an administrator to visually determine a status of the high-level scenario.
