Techniques to manage file conversions

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

• receiving file conversion requests to convert files between different file formats;
• determining whether the file conversion requests are synchronous file conversion requests or asynchronous file conversion requests based on two or more file conversion parameters associated with the file conversion request, when a first file conversion parameter indicates a number of files to be one and a second file conversion parameter indicates a latency value that is less than a threshold value;
• storing synchronous file conversion requests in a synchronous job queue;
• storing asynchronous file conversion requests in an asynchronous job queue at defined time intervals;
• and
• processing the synchronous file conversion requests stored in the synchronous job queue before the asynchronous file conversion requests stored in the asynchronous job queue.

An article of manufacture comprising a storage medium containing instructions that when executed cause a system to:

• determine whether file conversion requests are synchronous file conversion requests or asynchronous file conversion requests based upon two or more file conversion parameters associated with the file conversion request, when a first file conversion parameter indicates a number of files to be one and a second file conversion parameter indicates a latency value that is less than a threshold value;
• send synchronous file conversion requests to a synchronous job queue;
• store asynchronous file conversion requests in a document queue database;
• send asynchronous file conversion requests from the document queue database to an asynchronous job queue at defined time intervals;
• and
• process synchronous file conversion requests stored in the synchronous job queue prior to asynchronous file conversion requests stored in the asynchronous job queue.
