Protecting privacy of personally identifying information when delivering targeted assets

A system comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a computer readable storage device coupled to the processor, the computer readable storage device having instructions stored thereon which, when executed on the processor, cause the processor to:
• provide one or more clients with a template that provides a framework for user characteristics;
• fill a copy of the template with characteristics of users that are to receive one or more targeted assets;
• generate an encryption key based on the filled in template and a seed value;
• provide the seed value to the one or more clients;
• encrypt a manifest that identifies the one or more targeted assets using the encryption key;
• and
• send the encrypted manifest to the one or more clients.

A computer readable storage device having instructions stored thereon which, when executed on a processor, cause the processor to:

• provide one or more clients with a template that provides a framework for user characteristics;
• fill a copy of the template with characteristics of users that are to receive one or more targeted assets;
• determine an encryption key by applying a key generation algorithm to the filled in template;
• encrypt a manifest that identifies the one or more targeted assets using the encryption key;
• and
• send the encrypted manifest to the one or more clients.
