Method and system for compensating for distortion in a transmitter by utilizing a digital predistortion scheme with a feedback mixer configuration

A method in a radio frequency (RF) transceiver, comprising:

• generating, with a power amplifier of an RF transmitter, an output signal in response to an input signal;
• generating, with an in-phase (I) feedback mixer, an I component feedback signal by performing a frequency downconversion operation on the output signal;
• generating, with a quadrature-phase (Q) mixer, a Q component feedback signal by performing a frequency downconversion operation on the output signal;
• and
• selectively inserting the I component feedback signal and the Q component feedback signal at an insertion point in an RF receiver.

A system, comprising:

• a radio frequency (RF) receiver;
• an RF transmitter comprising a power amplifier configured to generate an output signal in response to an input signal;
• a feedback mixer circuit configured to perform a frequency downconversion operation on the output signal to generate a feedback signal;
• and
• a selection circuit configured to uncouple a portion of the RF receiver and insert the feedback signal at an insertion point in the RF receiver by configuring a closed feedback loop comprising the RF transmitter and at least a portion of the RF receiver.
