Abstract
A mass storage device includes a storage media with magnetic random access memory (MRAM) devices and a NAND flash interface and NAND flash memory devices that are coupled to the MRAM devices. The storage media has partitions (Logical Units (LUNs)) made of a combination of MRAM and NAND flash memory and further includes a controller with a host interface and a NAND flash interface coupled to the MRAM and NAND flash memory devices through a flash interface. A host is coupled to the controller through the host interface and the storage media communicates attributes to the host, an attribute being associated with one of the partitions, where the host uses the partition based on their attributes to optimize its performance.

A mass storage device coupled to a host and comprising:
- a storage media comprising one or more first memory devices including a first memory, the storage media further comprising a plurality of NAND flash memory devices including a NAND flash memory, the one or more first memory devices being distinct from the plurality of NAND flash memory devices, the mass storage device partitioned into at least one Logical Unit (LUN) based on the resources and utilization of the mass storage device, one of the at least one LUNs including at least a portion of the first memory and at least a portion of the NAND flash memory;
- and
- a controller coupled to the first memory device and the NAND flash memory device,
- wherein the at least one LUN is configured to optimize the performance of the host.
A mass storage device coupled to a host and comprising:
- a storage media comprising a first memory, and a second memory, the first memory being different from the second memory, and the mass storage device partitioned into at least one Logical Unit (LUN) based on the resources of the mass storage device, the LUN being mapped to a particular type of media or combination of different types of media in accordance with its utilization;
- and
- a controller coupled to the first memory and the second memory and configured to communicate with the host to transfer host data between the controller and the host,
- wherein the at least one LUN is configured to substantially optimize the performance of the host based on the attributes of the at least one LUN.
A mass storage device comprising:
- a first memory;
- a second memory, the first memory being distinct from the second memory,
- the mass storage device partitioned into one or more Logical Units (LUNs) based on the resources of the mass storage device, each of the one or more LUNs including at least one portion of the first memory and at least a portion of the second memory in accordance with the utilization of the one or more LUNs,
- wherein the one or more LUNs are configured to optimize performance of the host based on the attributes of the one or more LUNs.
A mass storage device comprising:
- at least a first memory and a second memory, the at least first memory being different from the at least second memory;
- at least one Logical Unit (LUN) spanning across at least a portion of the at least first and second memories;
- and
- a controller coupled to the at least first memory and the at least second memory and configured to communicate with a host and to transfer host data therebetween,
- wherein the host stores critical data in the at least a portion of the at least first memory.
