Partially tinted clear state for improved color and solar-heat gain control of electrochromic devices

A control device for varying the transmittance of an electrochromic device, the control device comprising:

• a power source electrically coupled to the electrochromic device, the power source configured to supply power to the electrochromic device;
• an electrical load sensing circuit coupled to the electrochromic device, the electrical load sensing circuit configured to measure at least one of a voltage and a current supplied to the electrochromic device;
• and
• a processor electrically coupled to the electrical load sensing circuit and the power source, the processor configured to receive a measured electrical load value from the electrical load sensing circuit indicating an electrical property of the electrochromic device, and to control one or more properties of the electrochromic device by controlling the amount of current or voltage supplied from the power source to the electrochromic device;
• wherein the processor is configured to vary a property of the electrochromic device while maintaining the electrochromic device at a substantially consistent transmissivity.
