Abstract
Disclosed is bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer. Also disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions that include bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed are methods of treating a patient that involve administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of the present invention. Formula (I).

A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer and an additional pharmaceutical agent, wherein the additional pharmaceutical agent is a nitric oxide (NO) enhancing agent.
A method of treating a patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising bucindolol, wherein the composition is substantially free of the R-stereoisomer of bucindolol, wherein the patient exhibits the symptoms of or been diagnosed with a right ventricular heart failure, congestive heart failure, hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction, or cardiac arrhythmia and wherein the patient is a human and the composition comprises a dose of 40 mg to 200 mg of bucindolol, the dose being prescribed to be administered at least once daily over a period of at least 28 days.
An oral pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and bucindolol substantially free of its R-stereoisomer and an additional pharmaceutical agent, wherein the additional pharmaceutical agent is a beta-adrenergic receptor blocker.
