Fiber optic connector assembly

A fiber optic connector assembly comprising:

• a first electrically insulating body having a contact hole and a guide hole both formed in the first insulating body;
• a first fiber optic adapter having a fiber optic terminus therein, the first adapter being mounted in the contact hole of the first insulating body;
• a second electrically insulating body having a contact hole and a guide hole both formed in the second insulating body;
• a second fiber optic adapter having a fiber optic terminus therein, the second adapter being mounted in the contact hole of the second insulating body, the second adapter being constructed for mating engagement with the first adapter;
• a guide bushing formed separately from the first insulating body and received in the guide hole in the first insulating body;
• and
• a guide pin received in the guide hole in the second insulating body, the guide pin comprising a stem having a maximum diameter portion;
• the first insulating body being configured for mating with the second insulating body such that the maximum diameter portion of the guide pin is received in the guide bushing in close tolerance prior to the first adapter engaging the second adapter to precisely guide the fiber optic termini into engagement with each other.
