Abstract
An aircraft window has an inner window assembly retained on an outer window assembly by a plurality of interlocking clips and receptacles positioned around the perimeter of the window. The interlocking clips and receptacles produce a retention force that compresses a seal against an outer structural the window to seal an internal cavity between the inner and outer window assemblies.
Claims15
An aircraft window, comprising:
- an outer window assembly including a structural window having a plurality of brackets around its perimeter;
- an inner window assembly;
- a seal adapted to seal the perimeter of the inner window assembly against the outer window assembly;
- and
- a plurality of retaining features around the perimeter of the window for retaining the inner window assembly on the outer window assembly and for forcing the seal against the structural window, the retaining features including a plurality of interlocking clips and receptacles, each receptacle being mounted on one of the plurality of brackets and having a socket, and each clip including a plug receivable in snap-fit relationship within a corresponding one of the sockets.
2 more elements
A window for an aircraft fuselage, comprising:
- a window frame, adapted to be secured to the fuselage, having a plurality of brackets mounted around a periphery thereof;
- an outer structural window mounted on the window frame;
- an inner window, spaced inboard of the outer structural window to form a window cavity between the inner window and the outer structural window;
- a seal extending around the window cavity for sealing the window cavity;
- and
- a plurality of retaining features for retaining the inner window on the window frame, each retaining feature including
- a plurality of spring clips respectively mounted on the brackets,
- a receptacle on each of the spring clips,
- a plurality of retention clips attached to the seal, and
- a plug on an end of each of the retention clips that may be snapped into one of the receptacles.
7 more elements
A window comprising:
- a structural window;
- a window frame around the structural window;
- at least one flexible receptacle mounted on the window frame, the receptacle including a socket having a maximum internal width and an opening having a width that is less than the maximum internal width;
- and
- a window assembly including at least one retention clip insertable into the receptacle for retaining the window assembly on the window frame during installation of the window assembly on the window frame, the retention clip including a plug having a width greater than the width of the opening in the socket.
2 more elements
An aircraft window, comprising:
- an outer window assembly;
- an inner window assembly adapted to be installed on the outer window assembly;
- a seal adapted to be compressed between the inner and outer window assemblies;
- and
- a plurality of retaining features for retaining the inner window assembly on the outer window assembly, the retaining features including
- a plurality of receptacles, mounted on the outer window assembly, and
- a plurality of retention clips, attached to the seal, each retention clip having a plug adapted to be snapped into one of the receptacles;
- the retaining features being configured to produce an audible indication when the seal has been sufficiently compressed during installation.
5 more elements
A window for an aircraft fuselage, comprising:
- an outer window assembly, including—
- a window frame adapted to be mounted on the fuselage,
- an outboard structural window mounted on the window frame,
- a seal between the frame and the outboard window,
- a plurality of brackets on the frame around the periphery of the outboard window,
- a plurality of spring clips respectively secured to the brackets,
- a flexible receptacle mounted on each of the spring clips and having a
- socket with a socket opening;
- and
- an inner window assembly adapted to be installed on the outer window assembly, including—
- an inboard window spaced inboard of the outboard window to form a cavity between the inboard and outboard windows when the inner window is installed on the outer window assembly,
- a compressible seal around the periphery of the window for sealing the cavity,
- a plurality of elongate retention clips respectively associated with the spring clips to form locking devices connecting the inner window assembly with the outer window assembly, the retention clips being bonded to the seal and spaced around the periphery of the inboard window assembly, each of the retention clips having a finger tab on one end thereof and a plug on the opposite end thereof, each of the plugs being receivable in snap-fit relationship in a socket of a corresponding one of the receptacles.
