Abstract
A system for facilitating virtualization of a heterogeneous processor pool includes a processor allocation component and a hypervisor, each executing on a host computer. The processor allocation component identifies a plurality of physical processors available for computing and determines a set of flags, each of the set of flags identifying a type of functionality provided by each of a subset of the plurality of physical processors. The hypervisor, in communication with the processor allocation component, allocates, to at least one virtual machine, access to one of the subset of the plurality of physical processors.
Claims20
A computer-implemented method for facilitating virtualization of a heterogeneous processor pool, the method comprising:
- identifying a plurality of physical processors available for computing;
- determining a common processor instruction set for a set of functionality supported across each physical processor in the identified plurality of physical processors, wherein at least one physical processor in the plurality of physical processors provides additional processor instructions for additional functionality that is not in the determined common set of functionality;
- and
- providing, by a hypervisor, to at least one virtual machine, a virtual processor implementing only the common processor instruction set for the set of functionality.
A system for facilitating virtualization of a heterogeneous processor pool, the system comprising:
- a plurality of physical processors available for computing;
- a hypervisor configured to determine a common processor instruction set for a set of functionality supported across each physical processor in the plurality of physical processors and provide, to at least one virtual machine, a virtual processor implementing only the common processor instruction set for the set of functionality, wherein at least one physical processor in the plurality of physical processors provides additional processor instructions for additional functionality that is not in the determined common set of functionality.
Computer-readable non-transitory storage media storing processor-executable instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
- identify a plurality of physical processors available for computing;
- determine a common processor instruction set for a set of functionality supported across each physical processor in the identified plurality of physical processors, wherein at least one physical processor in the plurality of physical processors provides additional processor instructions for additional functionality that is not in the determined common set of functionality;
- and
- provide, to at least one virtual machine, a virtual processor implementing only the common processor instruction set for the set of functionality.
