Abstract

Methods and systems for communication via subbands in a 60 GHz distributed communication system are disclosed and may include enabling one or more antenna configurations in remote RF modules within a wireless communication device based on a measured signal characteristic. The RF modules may receive IF signals from baseband signals via one or more coaxial lines. Output RF signals may be communicated in frequency subbands via the antenna configurations with external devices. The IF signals in the coaxial lines may be tapped at taps coupled to the RF modules. The baseband signals may include video, Internet streamed, and/or data from a local data source. Frequency division duplexed signals may be communicated to a display device. Control signals may be communicated utilizing the coaxial lines. The signal characteristic may include a received signal strength indicator, and or a bit error rate. The output RF signals may include 60 GHz subband signals.

Dependent claims

A method for wireless communication, the method comprising:

in a wireless communication device comprising a body and a plurality of remote RF modules within said body of said wireless communication device
amplifying one or more IF signals with a power amplifier in a final power amplification stage,
configuring one or more antennas in said plurality of remote RF modules based on a measured signal characteristic,
directly upconverting the one or more amplified IF signals to one or more RF signals, wherein the plurality of remote RF modules receive the one or more amplified IF signals which are generated within said body of said wireless communication device, wherein
said one or more amplified IF signals are generated from baseband signals,
said one or more amplified IF signals are one or more analog signals and are distributed within said body of said wireless communication device via one or more coaxial lines;
and
communicating control signals for said plurality of remote RF modules utilizing said one or more coaxial lines on a frequency different than the one or more amplified IF signals;
communicating the one or more RF signals at one or more frequency subbands, via said configured one or more antennas, with one or more devices external to said wireless communication device.

A system for wireless communication, the system comprising:

one or more circuits for use in a wireless communication device, said one or more circuits comprising a body and a plurality of RF modules within said body of said wireless communication device, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to
implement a power amplifier that amplifies one or more IF signals in a final amplification stage,
configure one or more antennas in said plurality of remote RF modules based on a measured signal characteristic,
directly upconvert the one or more amplified IF signals to one or more RF signals, wherein
the plurality of remote RF modules receive the one or more amplified IF signals that are generated within said body of said wireless communication device
said one or more amplified IF signals are generated from baseband signals,
said one or more amplified IF signals are one or more analog signals distributed within said body of said wireless communication device via one or more coaxial lines, and
communicate the one or more RF signals at one or more frequency subbands, via said configured one or more antennas, with one or more devices external to said wireless communication device, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to communicate control signals for said plurality of remote RF modules utilizing said one or more coaxial lines on a frequency different than the one or more amplified IF signals.
