Raman converting laser systems

A laser device, comprising:

• (a) at least one laser beam generating module that outputs at least one first laser beam having:
• a beam quality factor (M2) between 1 and 5, and
• a spectral width of less than 0.15 nm (FWHM),
• wherein the at least one laser beam generating module comprises at least one alexandrite laser oscillator;
• (b) at least one first Raman cell,
• 1) wherein the at least one first Raman cell is filled with at least one first gas,
• 2) wherein the at least one first Raman cell is operationally positioned to receive the at least one first laser beam generated by the at least one laser beam generating module, and
• 3) wherein the at least one first Raman cell is configured to convert the at least one first laser beam to produce at least one second laser beam when the at least one first laser beam passes through the at least one first Raman cell;
• and
• (c) at least one second Raman cell,
• 1) wherein the at least one second Raman cell is filled with at least one second gas which is different from the at least one first gas,
• 2) wherein the at least one second Raman cell is operationally positioned after the at least one first Raman cell to receive the at least one second laser beam,
• 3) wherein the at least one second Raman cell is configured to convert the at least one second laser beam to produce a final laser beam when the at least one second laser beam passes through the at least one second Raman cell;
• and
• (d) wherein the final laser beam having:
• a first energy of at least 1 mJ, and
• at least one first wavelength longer than 2.5 micron.
