Orientation-responsive use of acoustic reflection

A method comprising:

• providing a casing of an audio device, the casing rotatable about an axis between a first orientation and a second orientation different from the first orientation;
• disposing a plurality of acoustic drivers on the casing, at least a portion of the plurality of acoustic drivers configured to form a plurality of acoustic interference arrays;
• disposing a first acoustic reflector on the casing to at least partially overlie a first acoustic driver of the plurality of acoustic drivers such that first acoustic reflector reflects sounds acoustically output by the first acoustic driver within a first predetermined range of frequencies;
• disposing a second acoustic reflector on the casing to at least partially overlie a second acoustic driver of the plurality of acoustic drivers such that second acoustic reflector reflects sounds acoustically output by the second acoustic driver within a second predetermined range of frequencies;
• monitoring a gravity detector disposed on the casing to determine the orientation of the casing;
• providing a first plurality of coefficients to a plurality of filters in response to determining that the casing is in the first orientation;
• and providing a second plurality of coefficients to the plurality of filters in response to determining that the casing is in the second orientation.

An audio system comprising:

• a casing rotatable about an axis between a first orientation and a second orientation different from the first orientation;
• an orientation input device to detect an orientation of the casing relative to the direction of the force of gravity;
• a plurality of acoustic drivers disposed on the casing, each acoustic driver operating in a first frequency range, and at least a portion of the plurality of acoustic drivers configured to form a plurality of acoustic interference arrays;
• a first acoustic reflector disposed on the casing to partially overlie a first acoustic driver of the plurality of acoustic drivers, and to reflect sounds acoustically output by the first acoustic driver within a first predetermined range of frequencies such that the first reflector and the first acoustic driver cooperate to redirect a radiation pattern associated with sounds output by the first acoustic driver within the first predetermined range of frequencies;
• a second acoustic reflector disposed on the casing to partially overlie a second acoustic driver of the plurality of acoustic drivers, and to reflect sounds acoustically output by the second acoustic driver within a second predetermined range of frequencies such that the second acoustic reflector and the second acoustic driver cooperate to redirect a radiation pattern associated with sounds output by the second acoustic driver within the second predetermined range of frequencies;
• and
• a subwoofer separate from the casing, the subwoofer comprising at least one acoustic driver to acoustically output audio in a second frequency range lower than the first frequency range.
