Abstract
A graft prostheses (11), materials and method for implanting, transplanting, replacing, or repairing a part of a patient. The graft prosthesis includes a purified, collagen-based matrix structure removed from a submucosa tissue source. The submucosa tissue source is purified by disinfection and removal steps to deactivate and remove contaminants, thereby making the purified structure biocompatible and suitable for grafting on and/or in a patient.
Claims25
A surgical method for treating a patient, comprising:
- implanting a multilayer construct in the patient, the multilayer construct including a plurality of layers of tissue matrix material obtained from mammalian urinary tract tissue, wherein each of the layers of tissue matrix material includes submucosa tissue and lamina propria tissue and retains one or more native growth factors in the tissue matrix material, wherein said tissue matrix material is provided in a sterile condition while retaining said one or more native growth factors, and wherein said one or more native growth factors includes Fibroblast Growth Factor-2;
- and wherein the tissue matrix material additionally retains at least one native bioactive agent selected from the group consisting of a proteoglycan, a glycoprotein, and a glycosaminoglycan.
A surgical method to repair a tissue structure of a patient, comprising:
- implanting a multilayer construct in the body of a patient and in contact with a tissue structure in need of repair, the multilayer construct including a plurality of layers of tissue matrix material obtained from mammalian urinary tract tissue, wherein each of the layers of tissue matrix material includes submucosa tissue and lamina propria tissue, wherein the submucosa tissue has been separated from attached tunica muscularis tissue occurring to the abluminal side of the submucosa tissue in the urinary tract tissue, and wherein the tissue matrix material retains a proteoglycan, a growth factor, a glycoprotein, and a glycosaminoglycan;
- and, wherein said implanting includes applying the multilayer construct to a tissue wall in the body.
A surgical method to repair a tissue structure of a patient, comprising:
- implanting a multilayer construct in the body of a patient and in contact with a tissue structure in need of repair, the multilayer construct including a plurality of layers of tissue matrix material obtained from mammalian urinary tract tissue, wherein each of the layers of tissue matrix material includes tissue material from at least a submucosa layer and a lamina propria layer of the urinary tract tissue, the tissue matrix material retaining one or more native growth factors in the tissue matrix material, wherein said tissue matrix material is provided in a sterile condition while retaining said one or more native growth factors, and wherein said one or more native growth factors includes Fibroblast Growth Factor-2;
- and wherein the tissue matrix material has not been treated with a chemical crosslinking agent.
