Abstract
A metering system for a seeding machine is provided. The metering system includes selectively powered metering sections operable to individually allow or restrict seed dispensation. A damper arrangement is also provided so that pneumatic conveying of the particulate within the machine is consistently maintained when particulate flow is varied between the metering sections.
Claims34
A metering system for use in a particulate delivery system, wherein the particulate delivery system includes a rotatable drive shaft and a tank containing particulate, said metering system including a plurality of selectively-powered particulate metering sections, each of said selectively-powered particulate metering sections comprising:
- a rotatable metering roller configured to receive particulate from the tank,
- said rotatable metering roller operable to dispense the particulate when rotated,
- said rotatable metering roller operable to prevent particulate dispensation when not rotated;
- a rotatable metering wheel, said rotatable metering roller being configured to rotate with the rotatable metering wheel;
- a rotatable engagement wheel operable to rotate the rotatable metering wheel and thereby the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel and the rotatable metering wheel are drivingly interengaged;
- a drive wheel configured to be mounted on the rotatable drive shaft to rotate therewith,
- said drive wheel engaging the rotatable engagement wheel;
- and
- a control arm supporting the rotatable engagement wheel,
- said control arm being movable so as to shift the rotatable engagement wheel into and out of driving engagement with the rotatable metering wheel, such that particulate dispensation is prevented by the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel is drivingly disengaged from the rotatable metering wheel and particulate is dispensed by the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel is shifted into driving engagement with the rotatable metering wheel.
A particulate delivery system comprising:
- a tank containing particulate;
- a rotatable drive shaft;
- and
- a metering system, said metering system including a plurality of selectively-powered particulate metering sections, each of said selectively-powered particulate metering sections including—
- a rotatable metering roller in communication with the tank,
- said rotatable metering roller operable to dispense the particulate when rotated,
- said rotatable metering roller operable to prevent particulate dispensation when not rotated;
- a rotatable metering wheel, said rotatable metering roller being configured to rotate with the rotatable metering wheel;
- a rotatable engagement wheel operable to rotate the rotatable metering wheel and thereby the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel and the rotatable metering wheel are drivingly interengaged;
- a drive wheel mounted on the rotatable drive shaft to rotate therewith,
- said drive wheel engaging the rotatable engagement wheel;
- and
- a control arm supporting the rotatable engagement wheel,
- said control arm being movable so as to shift the rotatable engagement wheel into and out of driving engagement with the rotatable metering wheel, such that particulate dispensation is prevented by the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel is drivingly disengaged from the rotatable metering wheel and particulate is dispensed by the rotatable metering roller when the rotatable engagement wheel is shifted into driving engagement with the rotatable metering wheel.
