Abstract
A computing device (101, 400, 500) has a processor (401) and at least one peripheral device port (106, 107, 108, 109, 410-1 to 410-5). The processor (401) is configured to selectively power the at least one peripheral device port (106, 107, 108, 109, 410-1 to 410-5) when the processor (401) is in a sleep state (302, 303, 304, 305, 306) according to at least one setting stored by firmware (405) of the processor (401).
Claims20
A computing device comprising a processor and at least one peripheral device port;
- wherein said processor:
- powers up a host controller in preparation for said processor to enter a sleep state;
- storing at least one setting in firmware for said processor;
- determining, based on the at least one setting, a maximum sleep state level at which power will be provided to said at least one peripheral device port;
- and
- selectively powers said at least one peripheral device port by said host controller when said processor is in a sleep state that is less than the maximum sleep state level.
A method of powering at least one peripheral device coupled to a processor, comprising:
- storing a user-alterable setting in firmware for said processor;
- determining, based on the user-alterable setting, a maximum sleep state level at which power will be provided to said at least one peripheral device port;
- selectively providing power to said at least one peripheral device when said processor is in a sleep state according to said user-alterable setting;
- and
- removing power from said at least one peripheral device port when a sleep state level of the processor is greater than the maximum sleep state level.
A computer program product for powering at least one peripheral device coupled to a processor, said computer program product comprising:
- a non-transitory computer usable medium having computer usable program code embodied therewith, the computer usable program code comprising:
- computer usable program code to store a user-alterable setting;
- computer usable program code to determine, based on the user-alterable setting, a maximum sleep state level at which power will be provided to said at least one peripheral device port based on the user-alterable setting;
- and
- computer usable program code to selectively provide power to said at least one peripheral device when said processor is in a sleep state level that is less than the maximum sleep state level.
