Integration of carriers with social networks

One or more non-transitory machine-readable storage media having recorded thereon instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of operations comprising:

• receiving, at a server system of a social network and from a telephone service provider, information identifying members of a calling group for a first user associated with the telephone service provider;
• identifying, using the server system of the social network, the first user associated with the telephone service provider as being a member of the social network;
• identifying, using the server system of the social network, one or more of the members of the calling group as being one or more members of the social network;
• automatically defining, using the server system of the social network and in response to (i) identifying the first user associated with the telephone service provider as being a member of the social network and (ii) identifying the one or more of the members of the calling group as being one or more members of the social network, a social network group that includes the one or more members of the calling group who are members of the social network;
• identifying, by the server system of the social network, a change in membership of the social network group;
• and
• providing, by the server system of the social network and in response to identifying the change in membership of the social network group, information that characterizes the change in membership of the social network group to the telephone service provider.
