Abstract
Methods for measuring the sensitivity of a data packet signal receiver are provided by varying the power level or modulation or both of a received data packet signal in a predetermined controlled sequence of data packet signals.
Claims22
A method for measuring a sensitivity level of each of a first and a second data packet signal (DPS) receiver, each having a sensitivity characteristic defined by an expected packet error rate (PER) versus a data packet signal power level, comprising:
- receiving, by said first DPS receiver and said second DPS receiver, a single transmission of a data packet signal including a group of data packets, wherein first and second portions of said group of data packets have correspondingly first and second data packet power levels which are greater than and less than, respectively, a predetermined power level;
- computing, at least in part with said first DPS receiver, from said received first and second portions of said group of data packets a first cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said first DPS receiver;
- computing, at least in part with said second DPS receiver, from said received first and second portions of said group of data packets a second cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said second DPS receiver;
- and
- following reception of all of said group of data packets, including said first and second cumulative number of correctly received data packets, determining for said first DPS receiver a first single expected PER based on said first cumulative number of correctly received data packets and determining for said second DPS receiver a second single expected PER based on said second cumulative number of correctly received data packets.
A method for measuring a sensitivity level of each of a first and a second data packet signal (DPS) receiver, each having a sensitivity characteristic defined by an expected packet error rate (PER) versus a data packet signal power level, comprising:
- receiving, with said first DPS receiver and said second DPS receiver a single transmission of a data packet signal including a group of data packets, wherein each of at least two portions of said group of data packets have different data packet signal power levels:
- computing, at least in part with said first DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group of data packets a first cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said first DPS receiver;
- computing, at least in part with said second DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group of data packets a second cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said second DPS receiver;
- and
- following reception of all of said group of data packets, including said first and second cumulative number of correctly received data packets, determining a first single expected PER of said first DPS receiver based on said first cumulative number of correctly received data packets and determining a second single expected PER of said second DPS receiver based on said second cumulative number of correctly received data packets.
A method for measuring a sensitivity level of each of a first and a second data packet signal (DPS) receiver, each having a sensitivity characteristic defined by an expected packet error rate (PER) versus a data packet signal power level at an associated bit-rate modulation, comprising:
- receiving, with said first DPS receiver and said second DPS receiver, a single transmission of a data packet signal including a group of data packets, wherein first and second portions of said group of data packets have at least substantially equal data packet power levels and correspondingly first and second bit-rate modulations which are greater than and less than, respectively, a predetermined bit-rate modulation;
- computing, at least in part with said first DPS receiver, from said received first and second portions of said group of data packets a first cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said first DPS receiver;
- computing, at least in part with said second DPS receiver, from said received first and second portions of said group of data packets a second cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said second DPS receiver;
- and
- following reception of all of said group of data packets, including said first and second cumulative number of correctly received data packets, determining a first single expected PER of said first DPS receiver based on said first cumulative number of correctly received data packets and determining a second single expected PER of said second DPS receiver based on said second cumulative number of correctly received data packets.
A method for measuring a sensitivity level of each of a first and a second data packet signal (DPS) receiver, each having a sensitivity characteristic defined by an expected packet error rate (PER) versus a data packet signal power level at an associated bit-rate modulation, comprising:
- receiving, with said first DPS receiver and said second DPS receiver, a single transmission of a data packet signal including a group of data packets, wherein at least two portions of said group of data packets have at least substantially equal power levels, and each of said at least two portions have different bit-rate modulations;
- computing, at least in part with said first DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group a first cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said first DPS receiver;
- computing, at least in part with said second DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group a second cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said second DPS receiver;
- and
- following reception of all of said group of data packets, including said first and second cumulative number of correctly received data packets, determining a first single expected PER of said first DPS receiver based on said first cumulative number of correctly received data packets and determining a second single expected PER of said second DPS receiver based on said second cumulative number of correctly received data packets.
A method for measuring a sensitivity level of each of a first and a second data packet signal (DPS) receiver, each having a sensitivity characteristic defined by an expected packet error rate (PER) versus a data packet signal power level at an associated bit-rate modulation, comprising:
- receiving, with said first DPS receiver and said second DPS receiver, a single transmission of a data packet signal including a group of data packets, wherein at least two portions of said group of data packets have at least substantially the same power level and bit-rate modulation, and at least another two portions of said group of data packets have different power levels and bit-rate modulations;
- computing, at least in part with said first DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group a first cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said first DPS receiver;
- computing, at least in part with said second DPS receiver, from said received at least two portions of said group a second cumulative number of correctly received data packets for said second DPS receiver;
- and
- following reception of all of said group of data packets, including said first and second cumulative number of correctly received data packets, determining a first single expected PER of said first DPS receiver based on said first cumulative number of correctly received data packets and determining a second single expected PER of said second DPS receiver based on said second cumulative number of correctly received data packets.
